Building on more than 120 years of expertise in sustainable forestry, we are always innovating 和 improving our sustainability practices 和 leadership — in the woods 和 across our businesses.   

十多年前, we formalized our sustainability strategy by mapping out comprehensive commitments 和 goals, 和 we built a solid foundation of sustainability actions 和 expectations.   

In 2020, we launched a new strategy that reorganizes 和 intensifies our focus around three core areas: maintaining our strong foundation of ESG (environmental, social 和 governance) activities, goals 和 progress; strengthening the integration of sustainability into our business processes 和 priorities; 和 demonstrating the positive impacts of our actions.

The third area comprises three big challenges facing the world that our company is in a unique position to help solve. MaintainING Our ESG Foundation

We have spent decades delivering solid results in 环境管理, 社会责任强有力的治理. To drive continued excellence in these areas, we developed a roadmap that ensures we review our ESG strategies on a consistent schedule, set 和 meet appropriate annual goals, 并根据需要进行调整. Topics covered by our ESG roadmap include forest certification; environmental compliance; workplace safety; people development; diversity, inclusion 和 equity; community engagement; 和 enterprise risk management. We report our progress in these areas annually in our GRI数据报告, in our annual report, 和 through other publications.  


Because practicing sustainable forestry is fundamental to our business model, many Weyerhaeuser employees immediately associate sustainability with all the work we do replanting trees, protecting fish 和 wildlife habitat, 和 certifying our forests.  

But sustainability is about so much more than what we do in our forests. We are working with our teams to recognize 和 highlight all aspects of our sustainability performance — environmental, social 和 governance — 和 help all our employees see how their work contributes to our sustainability outcomes. This alignment work involves increasing the visibility of sustainability in our critical business processes, 包括商业计划, individual performance plans 和 capital plans. By applying this lens 和 integrating clear sustainability metrics 和 language into these processes, we strengthen not only awareness 和 pride among employees, but also our ability to identify opportunities, mitigate risk 和 more accurately report our overall sustainability performance.

Last year, we integrated sustainability metrics into 木材产品 business plans. One outcome of this work was the launch of a focused energy team within 木材产品 that will identify best practices 和 resources for decreasing energy consumption 和 improving efficiency at our mills. Also, our 分布 business identified focus areas to benchmark 和 improve its ESG performance. In 2021, we are piloting an approach that will increase sustainability visibility 和 add criteria to our capital expenditure process.

Since each of our businesses is different, this process looks different across our company. Yet by integrating sustainability into all of our existing business processes, we ensure that it isn’t seen as an add-on, but as an integral part of how we create value as a company.


We recognize that people expect businesses to reach beyond providing jobs, 纳税, operating ethically 和 minimizing environmental impact. It starts with oversight 和 direction from the very top of our company: our board of directors 和 its Governance 和 Corporate Responsibility Committee. 每年至少, this committee reviews our sustainability performance 和 progress toward goals, including our response to climate change, 新出现的问题, 和 key opportunities 和 trends. Our senior leadership team sets our strategy 和 keeps us focused on the most critical opportunities 和 needs.
